Virginia has worked extensively for many years with Authorities, Providers, Organisations and families in promoting the Principals of Personalisation using Self- Directed Support. She has contributed to the training programme for ‘Making Change Happen’ in Cheshire and has undertaken similar work for the University of Manchester & Manchester Metropolitan University.

Her knowledge is based on many years of personal experience.Virginia has 2 sons who need support to live independent lives. Her son Keith was one of the first people in the country to develop his support plan using an Individual Budget flexibly to meet his needs imaginatively and to transform his life. Virginia also has experience of working with Mental Health professionals to develop the support her other son needs to live a life that makes sense to him.

Virginia’s experience working with social and health care practitioners has convinced her that central to changing practice and achieving a shift in approach is the need to change attitudes. Sharing her family’s personal experience has proved invaluable in helping practitioners to change their thinking and their practice.
